Whilst researching recent posts, I came across the following highly disturbing United Nations anti-trafficking document which would apparently seek to effectively ban prostitution world-wide, and which is being lobbied for by a sexual trade union group calling itself ‘The European Women’s Lobby’.
First of all, I found the link from a Radio Netherlands Worldwide article :
The UN Convention on the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation and Prostitution of Others sets out the need to protect women’s dignity, describing human trafficking as “evil”. Today Brigitte Triems, President of the European Women’s Lobby, urged all UN countries to ratify the document:
“For the European Women’s Lobby it is the ideological and humanistic basis of our action for women’s rights and human rights and prostitution, an intolerable form of male violence.”
But what is disturbing is the wording of the United Nations document that is linked to, and which these sexual trade union feminists are urging all nations of the world sign up to :
Article 1
The Parties to the present Convention agree to punish any person who, to gratify the passions of another:
(1) Procures, entices or leads away, for purposes of prostitution, another person, even with the consent of that person;
(2) Exploits the prostitution of another person, even with the consent of that person.
Article 2
The Parties to the present Convention further agree to punish any person who:
(1) Keeps or manages, or knowingly finances or takes part in the financing of a brothel;
(2) Knowingly lets or rents a building or other place or any part thereof for the purpose of the prostitution of others.
The document actually begins with , and seems to be basing its validity upon, the following chilling words :
prostitution and the accompanying evil of the traffic in persons for the purpose of prostitution are incompatible with the dignity and worth of the human person and endanger the welfare of the individual, the family and the community,
How is it possible that a handful of feminist sexual trade union lobby groups can pressure the United Nations into signing documents that will impact upon the rights of millions of people world-wide? Who the fuck is it for a handful of psychotic, sexually jealous old bags to determine that prostitution is ’incompatible with the dignity and worth of the human person’?
Some readers may recognise that language as being identical with that used in the 1989 charter on the ‘fundamental rights of the child’ which held that any sexual representation of a person who even appears to be under 18 to be ‘incompatible with the dignity of a child’. A treaty which now makes any man from Argentina to the Arctic fearing the 4 am raid because he clicked once on a Japanese cartoon picture of a youngish looking anime girl (something, by the way, which clearly breaks the European Unions’ fundamental citizen’s right to a private life – if anything does).
The dating of this UN document is somewhat confusing. I guess little people aren’t supposed to be reading these things that impact 7 billion people, but the dates suggest that this charter was already passed in 1949.. My assumption is that the femi-rapists and their bible-bashing allies are using and modifying existing anti-trafficking treaties in order to have prostitution banned world-wide. Under the guise of ‘liberal progress’ and sex trafficking hysteria, the feminists are seeking to impose a biblical morality upon the entire Earth.
It also might be interpreted that the wording of the document suggests that only pimping is to be outlawed. In reality it is unlikely that even an independent working girl could operate without some form of ‘assistance’. Even using a webhosting company to advertise your services online could be considered a form of such assistance or ‘exploitaton of the prostitution of others’ (on the part of the webhosting company who make money from the hosting fees), just as Craigs List recently dropped adult service ads through fear of similar legal interpretation.
Any further research and links that my readers can provide on this disturbing development would be much appreciated. Otherwise, we’re going to wake up one day very soon and find that prostitution has been criminilized world-wide.
The intro video on the “European Women’s Lobby” website is one of the biggest peices of propaganda trash I have ever seen. Please allow me to take this opportunity to tear into it.
First of all you have many phrissy phrases uttered over and over again such as “we are not for sale” but the client is PAYING FOR A SERVICE he is not acquiring ownership of the prostitute virtually anyone providing a service could just say “I am not for sale”. It seems that feminists here are trying to make a special pleading argument that there is something different about proving sexual services by repeating these stupid phrissy phrases ad nauseum.
Secondly you have a very high reliance on anecdotal evidence in the form of testimony from former prostitutes who had bad experiences in the industry. There is of course no anecdotal evidence presented to give any opposing views (ex: women who had positive or neutral experiences in the sex industry). Anecdotal evidence in this context would be of questionable use anyway IMHO in order to get a good picture of what the reality is like for sex workers you would have to do a detailed study of women involved in all sectors of the sex industry (ex: massage parlours, escort services, independent escorts, street prostitutes…etc) in different jurisdictions (ex: where sex work is legal vs where it is illegal and where sex work is frowned upon as an occupation vs places where it is not…etc) and even then you have problems because you will often be dealing with biased samples (the responses to your inquiry will reflect the experiences of those who are willing to participate in your research…and these girls may not be representative of sex workers as a whole) and as Steve Moxon pointed out in his book “druggie” street protitutes are the most visible sex workers as they have to stay out much longer than healthier prostitutes to attract clients…thus they are often widely overrepresented in samples used for prostitution research and this leads to skewed statistics WRT to sex worker related issues…remember that next time some feminist quotes some hair-raising anti-prostitution statistic.
Thirdly you have feminists repeatedly making unsubstantiated claims or saying things that just don’t follow a good example being Sigma Huda saying “prostitution is a form of trafficking and is one of the worst violations of human rights and is a form of violence” can anyone else come up with a better example of a non sequitor? She later on asks why so many women who voluntarily become prostitutes (alledgedly) take drugs…the words mixing up cause and effect come to mind. You also have that Korean-American former prostitute saying things like “legalizing sex work will not put an end to violence to women in the sex industry” this is an obvious straw man argument as no one is claiming that violence will END just that it has the possibility of being reduced. She then goes on to say “women deserve real choices not the choice between a brothel and an ascort service” an obvious false dilemma there. There simply just too many stupid statements like this to quote and tear into, I would be typing all day if I tried to attack everyone of them.
Furthermore some of the information presented is of questionable relevance. For example a statisitic is trumped up claiming that 67% to 90% of prostitutes working in major European cities are foreigners…uh so what? What is the relevance of that fact? Unless you have solid evidence that large scale trafficking (or some other bad thing related to your “foreigner” statistic) is going on what is your point? There are many industries that end up being dominated by immigrants (ex: taxi driving in large canadian cities) for a variety of reasons.
I can’t believe an organization that produces garbage like this gets any attention at all. What a truly depressing state of affairs.
@Highwayman It’s scary beyond belief that a few feminist lobby groups can influence what amounts to a world government (the UN) with so little effort and with such (likely) massive consequences for millions of people. And there doesn’t seem to be anything we can realistically do to even challenge it. This blog seems to be the only one that has thus far picked up on this. Prostitution could be effectively illegal everywhere in the world within a matter of months, and only a handful of people outside of the feminists and politicians themselves will have likely even been aware of the plans.
I wrote the above comment when I was a bit tired in hindsight my claim that Sigma Huda’s uttered a non-sequitor is unfounded since it was a statement not an argument.

I’ve often wondered if feminism got started when the influence of religion started to wane in western society. That when the design argument, long used to silence critics of theology (that and the rack), was smashed by Darwin and Wallace a ‘misandry vacuum’ was created in much of the western world that feminism then expanded to fill.
If so then it follows that atheist men, even if they consider themselves feminists, are REALLY ‘closet antifeminists’. While their are some very good reasons for not believing in God I suspect that what really draws men to atheism is an acute awareness that religion has been the long standing enemy of male sexual agency and that they are all at least vaguely aware that feminism, far from being about the right of a woman to work 60+ hours a week, is really an attempt to reinstate such misandry by secular means.
What amusement one can derive from watching feminists pull their hair out over the likes of Dawkins and Hitchens defending womens rights AGAINST THE WILL of feminists. Frustrated because their is little they can really do to silence such guys. The closest thing they can get to accusing Dawkins of being a hateful, violent, sexist is to accuse him of only wanting to ban the burka because it “deprives him of the ‘priviledge’ (has the arrogance of feminists any bounds?) of the male gaze” as one cunt put it on some unremarkable feminist blog somewhere.

@Ewm great comment and I agree entirely. Sometimes I think Dawkins is one step away from seeing the light and seeing feminism for the secular religion that it really is. There is a great video on YouTube of him tearing into the fake science taught by ‘gender studies’ departments.
I think what holds guys like Dawkins and Pat Condell back is that they like to use the supposed ‘Islamic oppression of women’ as a stick to beat religion with.
Should Craigslist not stop sale of bikes, cell phone, and other items? Some are stolen, some even product of robbery. Some stuff is smuggled, or falsified. So it is only fair if they stop selling it. The best solution is to stop all ads.
And maybe room rental too. I am sure sometimes a crime gets committed by tenants. Or tenants get robbed. And who knows, maybe terrorists find a room or apartment rental through Craigs list.
Isn’t it funny how nobody applies the same logic to other items?

Although I am sure that many feminists and Religious Fundamentalist types would love to see a worldwide ban on prostitution I am just not seeing that happening in the near future. What concerns me is that the U.N. and other international organizations could start imposing ridiculous requirements on member states to combat “human trafficking” or face severe international sanctions. These requirements could be that member states must set their minimum age for prostitution at 21 or that member states can only allow people with full citizenship (ie not people with work permits or landed immigrant/permanent resident status) to work as prostitutes. I hope you’re right in that the ‘european women’s lobby’ can’t get the UN to sign up to the document as it stands. What I fear is that these femi-beasts are fiendishly intelligent and manipulative. They won’t push the treaty as ‘banning prostitution’ but as banning the pimping that ‘enables trafficking’. But in effect it will have the same outcome, or at least give countries run by feminists and/or religious nut jobs the power to interpret it in a legal way that will effectively make even independent escort work impossible.
Feminists are masters at this. They raised the age of consent to 16 in the UK on the grounds that it would stop 12 year olds prostituting themselves on street corners. It was never formally supposed to be about jailing men for having consensual sex with 15 year olds, especially not in a secular society which now has free contraception and holds that it is a woman’s right to drop her panties at the drop of a hat. Yet everybody in the UK now thinks there is something magical about the age of 16, and that a 15 year old having sex will be emotionally destroyed, even though we have seperated sex from religious values, as well as the likelihood of pregnancy, even though most 13 year olds today are more sexually knowledgeable than unmarried 20 year olds were 100 years ago, and a society in which casual sex is an accepted right.
Likewise the 1989 Un charter on the rights of child was not supposed to be about stopping men having sex with 17 year olds. It can’t have been because the feminists tried to incorporate a universal age of consent set at 18 into the charter, but failed. Yet, with the ubiquity of the internet and instant communication, the definition of child pornography, which now includes such things as ‘sexting’, means that 18 has more less effectively become a universal age of consent. And I’m sure feminists knew that it would be.
We should have a witch-hunt!
If they want to ban prostituition (an activity in which women get paid) then why don’t they ban paternity fraud, and act in which men DO NOT GET PAID BUT RATHER ARE EXPLOITED BY THEIR BACKSTABBING WIVES – IN SOME CASES FOR MOST OF THEIR ADULT LIFE. Seems like more female chauvinist hypocrisy by feminists.
